If you or a loved one has cancer, heart disease, weight problems or almost any other health issue I hope you’ll watch this video

Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead is about a lot more than juicing or losing weight

This is an inspiring film about Australian businessman Joe Cross and his battle to overcome growing weight problems and a painful, rare skin disorder requiring him to take numerous medicines. He had finally had enough and decided to go on a juice fast and drive across America interviewing people about their eating habits.

The best part of the video is when Joe connects with a trucker who coincidentally suffers from the same two problems but worse. I won’t ruin the ending for you but let’s just say it will make you all goose pimply if you like happy endings.

A cousin of mine was so inspired by watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead that he adopted healthy eating and living habits and lost over 60 pounds. Pretty amazing.

What the real message of this film is and why I think it’s so important for anyone with health issues, and especially for anyone with late stage cancer

I think the film should be inspiring for most people with almost any health issues. I don’t even think the vehicle he used (juicing) is important. The most important message of this film is the amazing things that are possible when you take responsibility of your health and start adopting healthy eating and living habits. The healing powers that our Creator put into our bodies, when they are properly nourished, exercised and rested is pretty amazing.

I’m not endorsing juicing by posting this video; but here’s what I am endorsing

This post is not an endorsement of or recommendation for juice fasting (or any healthy eating or lifestyle regime) as a replacement for conventional cancer treatment. What I am endorsing is finding and adding as many science based nutritional tools and weapons to complement conventional cancer treatment such as chemo (which is just one tool/weapon) in your efforts to manage late stage cancer and increase the possibility of late stage remission.

Keep your oncologist informed about any major dietary changes or addition of supplements

I highly recommend talking with your oncologist about the addition of any supplements or major dietary changes (for example going on an extended juice fast, or daily use of green tea) in order to minimize the possibility of interaction with chemo drugs resulting in unintended side effects.

A remarkable study on the immune boosting power of turkey tail mushrooms and an ironically successful case (3 min. 56 sec.)

I found this remarkable short video on the Facebook page for Nutritional Solutions, a company that has offered science based nutritional consultation to cancer patients all around the world since 1997. It is staffed by medical professionals and founded by Jeanne M. Wallace, PhD., CNC, who has an excellent reputation among integrative cancer treatment professionals. So I took the video more seriously than I might have otherwise.

Coriolus (aka turkey tail mushroom) has been shown in scientific studies to boost immune function in cancer patients that have had their immune systems weakened by chemo or radiation therapy. In this TED Talk, Paul Stamets talks about results of a study of turkey tail’s immune enhancing effects (and shows excellent graphics to illustrate the results) and how it hit home when his 84 year old mother was diagnosed with extremely advanced breast cancer and had few if any conventional options.

NOTE: Paul talks about use of turkey tail normally and preferably used as an adjunct (i.e. in addition to) conventional treatment, not as a replacement for conventional care. His mother’s case was rather exceptional as you’ll see in short video.

Antibiotics and other toxic drugs can devastate vital intestinal bacteria. Here’s what you can do to replenish that 80 percent of your immune function (1 min. 51 sec. video)

Below is a link to blog post by Dr. Michael Klaper on how to test probiotics for viability (i.e. live bacteria) and how to take them for maximum effectiveness:

The vital good bacteria lining the intestinal walls

Under ideal conditions our intestines are lined with billions of good bacteria that help to break down waste and act as protectors against harmful things that would otherwise get into our bodies through the gut lining. Dr. Michael Greger ( has written that this immune supporting function makes it amount to the equivalent of a whole separate immune system organ. One source I read wrote that it amounts to about 80 percent of the total bodily immune function.

Problems can occur when we’re given antibiotics (or other powerful toxic agents such as chemo drugs) that can kill many of these good bacteria. My reading has led me to conclude that a compromised immune system may have contributed to the establishment, growth and invasion of my wife’s cancer. I’m taking no chances so I try to help her replenish these good bacteria between chemo sessions (a bit harder now because she’s given an infusion pump that she must wear for five days at a time) as best I can.

Probiotics to the rescue!

Probiotics are encapsulated good bacteria that you can buy at most health food stores and consume to repopulate a gut that in which the good bacteria has been devastated by antibiotics or other toxic drugs. In the above video, Dr. Greger talks about the best way to take probiotics each time to ensure that the most bacteria survive the harsh stomach environment and make it into the intestines.

Above is also a link to a blog post by Dr. Michael Klaper, in which he gives some additional helpful information on how to test if the probiotic product you’re taking contains live bacteria (some probiotics contain dead bacteria and are of course worthless to anyone and a waste of money) and more suggestions on how to best take probiotics to ensure maximum effectiveness.

Inflammation promotes cancer cell growth and curcumin is one of the best anti-inflammatory herbals available. But which of the dozens on the market should you take? (minutes 26 through 40 of this webinar)

I keep reading more and more about the amazing anti-inflammatory effects and anticancer effects of curcumin (the stuff that gives the herb tumeric its color). And it’s been shown to inhibit cancer at every stage (i.e. survival, proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis and metastesis). But there are dozens and dozens of products on the market with bold unproven claims and even outright false advertising. A big consideration is how much of the curcumin you take actually reaches the bloodstream and tumor or affected organ(s). My research indicates that we’re flushing a huge amount of curcumin down the toilets of the world.

In my search for truth and clarity on the confusing issue I’ve found the blog of Dr. Josh Trutt ( tremendously helpful. In this webinar during minutes 26 through 40 (you can use your cursor to move the little red button at the bottom of the video screen ahead to minute 26 so you don’t have to listen to minutes one through 25) he clarifies why anyone interested in preventing alzheimers or trying to prevent, manage or bring into remission cancer should consider adding curcumin to their roster of supplements and what he believes is the most effective curcumin brand on the market of the top three.

Dr. Trutt has no financial interest in any supplement brands. His company sells a package of various brands of supplements which effect longevity and he is always on the look out for the most effective brand of whatever supplements are in that pack (such as curcumin).

NOTE: The first 25 minutes of the webinar cover recent findings on multivitamins and minutes 41 onward cover vitamin D–the benefits of the right levels and the detrimental effects of too much.

For a limited time you can watch a free documentary series on nontoxic, noninvasive, less expensive alternatives to conventional treatment

Link to sign up to receive email notification as each segment of the above documentary series is released on the internet: (viewable for free from Monday, May 26 through Sunday, June 1 on the internet)

A new (temporarily) free documentary series on nontoxic, noninvasive, much less costly ways of managing, treating, and surviving cancer

If you’re at all interested in alternative/natural cancer treatment and cures cancer researcher and author (Cancer: Step Outside the Box and website: Ty Bollinger has filmed and will be releasing a six part documentary on natural cancer treatment and healing for free on the internet for a limited amount of time (Monday, May 26 through Sunday, June 1). If you want a good survey of the thinking and methodologies of the natural approach to cancer treatment and healing I recommend you sign up (see link at beginning and end of this post) to receive an email notice as each episode is released.

What is The Quest For the Cures about?

According to Ty Bollinger:

“The Quest for The Cures” is the first ever, investigative report (“60-minutes-style”) documentary mini-series that will broadcast over the internet (for free) starting Monday May 26th through Sunday June 1st. Each episode will air prime time nightly at 9pm Eastern and again at 9pm Pacific.

In this one-of-a-kind documentary you will follow me, Ty Bollinger, as I travel the country interviewing doctors, researchers, experts, and cancer survivors to find out their proven methods to prevent and treat cancer. (see list of participants below)

You see, most conventional doctors don’t know how to treat cancer. Not because they don’t want to save lives, of course they do, but because even they don’t know about all the cutting-edge strategies that people are using (treatments that are not being taught in medical schools). That is why this brand new, week-long mini-series is so powerful.

The Quest for Cures will feature exclusive interviews, doctors, researchers, experts, and cancer survivors including:

  • Dr. Roby Mitchell, M.D.
  • Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy, M.D.
  • Suzanne Somers
  • Dr. Patrick Quillin
  • Dr. Robert Scott Bell
  • Dr. David Jockers

Episode 7: How to Survive and Thrive

Why the shift in approach of Stage 4 Living?

As I mentioned in a recent post, because of my recent experiences watching my wife endure the awful side effects of her increasingly expensive chemo treatments  and the increasingly unbearable costs I feel I have little choice but to highly selectively investigate the so called “alternative” (nontoxic, noninvasive, much less costly, etc.) approaches to healing from, surviving, and putting in remission cancer. This my first effort to share what I find in my search to expand our options.

Have I abandoned conventional treatment?

I have not left conventional cancer treatment. Rather my wife and I are finding that conventional cancer treatment is progressively abandoning us through the terrible side effects from increasingly toxic treatments and increasingly ruinously expensive costs to middle class people who lose coverage or who only have partial coverage.

WARNING: Be a skeptic–Become a student not a follower in your search for truth about cancer treatment, management and remission

I highly recommend that you do your own research and make up your own mind. Don’t take my word, your oncologist’s word or a natural treatment guru’s word on dealing with cancer. It’s your health (or your loved one’s health). You will bear the consequences if someone makes wrong decisions so no one has the right to tell you not to question authority or an “expert” of any kind–conventional, integrative or alternative/natural.

As business philosopher Jim Rohn said: “Become a student not a follower” A student asks questions and probes for answers and truth. A follower accepts whatever they’re told.

Studies show that cholesterol feeds breast cancer cells (2 min. 44 sec. video)

In this short (2 min. 44 sec.) video learn:

*Studies show reduced postmenopausal breast cancer risk associated with pumpkin and sunflower seeds. The phytosterols in them lowers the cholesterol which cancer feeds on.

*This may be the reason cholesterol levels often drop in cancer patients (i.e. the cancer cells are consuming the cholesterol).

*High cholesterol uptake (consumption) by the tumor can indicate the tumor is growing is growing rapidly.

*And more.
